Considerations for Devo Authors

  1.   There are two basic approaches to determine the biblical passage from which one writes and the content of the devotional:

a.  It is good to ask the Lord to use what you are currently studying and learning from his word (personal study and devotions) to show you what the women in our church need to hear.  Just share with other women what God is teaching you from his word.

b.  It is also fine to address issues and concerns relevant to our women and community at large as long as your points are derived from Scripture.

2.   Make an intentional effort to interpret the meaning of a passage and not just use a passage to say what you want.  Let your application be steered by the best possible interpretation.

3.   One page length in 12 pt. font is best.  Will consider exceptions. Focus on your main point and don't try to say too many things in one devo.  You are encouraged to write as many devos as you feel led to write!

4.   Let your individuality and personality shine through!  The readers want to know you better and will relate to authors of varying styles.

5.   Ask yourself if the devotional is really God-centered.

6.   Double check for errors, but don't worry much about typos, etc., because the message is more important than the writing.

7.   I will edit and format after you give/send the devo to me. Doesn't matter if it's handwritten, typed,  sent in the mail, or emailed.  As long as it's in English!  I will let you know before it goes on the website!
