This summer we will travel to Romania to work with the children at House of Hope. House of Hope was started by Camelia Cismaru, who witnessed the extreme neglect and abandonment of Romanian orphans in loveless state institutions. House of Hope provides a family-style setting where house parents live with the children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the children are involved in all aspects of a family-type home.
Working together with Kids’ Alive, we will get involved by offering a Vacation Bible School for the children, provide some sports ministries, and complete various work projects.
Application Complete this application and return it with your $250.00 deposit (non-refundable upon acceptance of application) by Sunday, February 5 to the secure box in the Youth Room.
Dates Our journey starts on Sunday, July 15 when we travel to Romania. We will start our journey home on Sunday, July 22.
Costs The total cost for the mission trip is $2,900. That works out to be $800 for food, lodging and transportation in Romania; $400 for ministry supplies and chaperone cost; and approximately $1700 for airfare. (Airfare is an estimate from on today’s prices (Jan. 2012) and we believe, based on past experience, that this price will be available when we purchase tickets.)
Deadlines If your student wants to attend, they must bring a completed application and a deposit of $250 (non-refundable upon acceptance of application) to the secure box in the Youth Room by Sunday, February 5. The remainder of the balance, after fundraiser projects, will be due by Monday, July 2.
Fundraising There will be opportunities for your teen to raise money to help pay for this trip. My goal is that each teen earn about $1000-$2500 from fundraising (this is just a goal, not a guarantee). We will do a variety of fundraisers which may include: mission letter fundraiser, work projects, garage sales, SuperBook Sale, etc.
We are also planning fundraising meals. Those dates are February 19, March 11, April 15, May 6, June 10 and July 1.
Required Meetings There are required meetings for the student to attend on February 5, March 4 & 25, April 29, May 20, June 11 & 24, July 8. Meetings will be immediately after church from 12:00-2:30 pm in the Youth Room with the exception of Monday, June 11 from 6-8 pm. I understand that this is a difficult expectation to meet and there will be a little flexibility, however, as with any ministry it is necessary to meet for ministry preparation as well as planning fundraising.
Every teen (and leader) who has attended a mission trip has come back with a new perspective on life, faith, and God, and has a renewed and stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. Please prayerfully consider this event for your teen.
