Friday Morning Women's Bible Study
Winter 2012

Beginning February 3, 9:15 - 11:20 a.m.
(NOTE NEW START DATE!!)

Ladies, with a desire to meet the varied needs of women of The Chapel and our community, we are presenting several topics for study this winter.  Please join us starting February 3.  First we will gather as a large group to have our hearts and minds drawn to Jesus.  Then we will spend 1-1/2 hours in small groups studying, discussing God's word, sharing prayer needs and praying together.

Childcare from birth to six years with age-appropriate programming to teach God's love is available.  Please sign up as soon as possible so we can plan our children's program appropriately.

We would love to have you join us and invite a friend or neighbor.  If you have any questions, please call Marla Hutchinson at 429-6334.

Following is a list of the topics that are available.  Come with expectant hearts to receive personally from the Lord, and with a desire to share our lives with each other.  It is our desire to "carry each other's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Gal. 6:2).

Study Descriptions

The Life You've Always Wanted
By John Ortberg

Led by Marla Hutchinson

We have all had those times in which we are disappointed in ourselves, times in which we are impatient with our spiritual growth, times when we may give up hope of ever changing.

The book, The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg, (Willow Creek Resources), looks at time honored spiritual practices that promote personal change. His writing is fresh, relevant, and captivates our motivations to focus on do-able activities for ordinary people. He states, "Spiritual transformation is not a matter of trying harder, but of training wisely" and "Your guilt and inadequacies are no longer the ultimate truth about you!" This study group will strive to banish legalism and perfectionism, to have a safe environment to explore learning and practicing new strategies together, and supporting each other in prayer. Some topics to be covered are the practice of celebration, the practice of slowing, the practice of prayer, confession, secrecy, and guidance from the Holy Spirit.

Join us for times of renewal and enrichment with a God who knows us and loves us.

Preparation for this study is 30 minutes, four days a week.
Book: $11.00 (available for purchase at our first meeting)

No Other Gods: Confronting Our Modern-Day Idols
By Kelly Minter
Led by Lois Hodgell

The topic of false gods is a significant one; not something banned to foreign lands and ancient times, but something we deal with on a regular basis within the confines of our hearts. They can be simple things like people, houses, careers, shopping, or food; things that may have grown into idols simply by how much we desire them. Regardless of our idols, they all take the place of God in our lives, something He is not keenly given to because of His great and jealous love for us. As a group we will discover how much God desires to free us from such powerless, yet deceptive gods so that we can make room for His all-surpassing presence to move in our lives. You are sure to enjoy this conversational approach to Bible study, where we will share meal ideas, our lives, and God’s great love for us. (You may recognize Kelly Minter; she spoke at Warm Winter Evening last year.)

Preparation time: 20 minutes, five days a week.
Work Book: $14.50 (available for purchase at our first meeting)

James: Mercy Triumphs
By Beth Moore
Led by Jeanie Pow

“Count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds…”

Have you ever wondered what kind of man penned words like these?

“…for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

And, have you ever wondered what events transpired in his life to harness such assurance, even as these words are passed on to you?

Join us then for this new Beth Moore study on the book of James. We will get to know the man James and explore concepts such as joy, hardship, faith, wisdom, the tongue, humility, prayer, and much more. We will be inspired to put our faith into action in practical ways. This study will involve five days of homework per week on your own and a video session with discussion when we meet together. This is an exciting study not to be missed!

Preparation time: 30-45 minutes, five days per week
Member Book: $16.50 (available for purchase at our first meeting)
