Cindy Swearingen
Director of Children's Ministry

Cindy received a B.A. in Elementary Education from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. She joined the staff at The Chapel in January of 2000. She is married to Alan and has three children, Brett, Beth, and Keith. Cindy oversees Children's Ministries from newborn through fifth grade.

If I could ask God one question it would be…"Where is the ark of the covenant?"

My significant others are…my husband, three kids, 3 grandchildren and my sister.

If I had a different job I’d be…activities director in a nursing home or learning how to do woodworking.

I am happiest when…I’ve been in God’s word and exercised in the morning.

Best advise I would give a 20 year old…Study God’s word every day and figure out what’s important to God for that day.

Likes…The color red, cooking a big dinner.

I have traveled to…the Holy Land!!!

Favorite Bible character...Elijah in the story of Elijah and the Prophets of Baal (some people will be surprised it isn’t Noah, as I have lots of Noah things in my house). It was a treat for me to see the hill where that happened in Israel.

I was born…In Huron Road Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.

Life verse…“We were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 2:7

My last meal would be…Sauerkraut and spareribs cooked by my mother.

My worst habit is…Awful  

My childhood ambition was…To be a teacher.

Biggest challenge...Volunteers.

My favorite city outside of St. Joseph/Stevensville…Washington, D.C.

Nobody knows that I…Like to line dance.

Transforming experience…My first experience with seeing answered prayer in 1987.


My ideal vacation would be…A mild temperature place where I can both hike and have a comfortable chair to read in.

Fondest memory…Being at the birth of my first grandchild.
